Prepaid Phone Cards:
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Why am I having trouble calling a 900 number?
-
While the industry has gravitated to a uniform charge
for 800-number calls, there is too much disparity over what 900-number
owners charge to standardize on a single fee, and there is no technical
mechanism for determining the fee for 900-numbers. Therefore, phone cards
avoid fee collection problems by blocking calls to all "area
code" 900-numbers, which is their legal prerogative. If you ever dial a
900 number, you will hear the following message: We are sorry; calls to this area code are not permitted.
-
My prepaid phone cards don't work from all locations.
Why is that?
-
Because the payphone owner, the
local phone company, or long distance company has placed an illegal block
on the 800-number(s) that you're calling (and probably many more 800-numbers). But
you can fight it.
-
Why am I receiving a "code 2" error when I use
LINQ products?
-
If you call someone and hang up (with or without speaking to someone) you must
wait approximately one minute before dialing another number. This
is to allow the LINQ computer to reset itself. If you don't let the computer
reset itself, then you will receive an audible "code 2" error
message.
-
I dialed a number using a LINQ product, but I was told the
number was an "invalid number." I know it's not—what's going on?
-
You'll hear this message when the number is dialed before the
"number of minutes remaining" message has finished. LINQ is
working to eliminate that inconvenience.
